David W. Meyers
Dave Meyers practices in the areas of real estate and land use. Until recently he was head of the firm’s Litigation Department. He has extensive experience in real estate transactions and litigation, land use and land use litigation, disputes involving growers and wineries, and environmental disputes, including environmental impact reports, toxic cleanup and Proposition 65 compliance. He has successfully handled and resolved or tried many civil cases of all types in state and federal courts at both trial and appellate levels. He is currently the Managing Director of the firm. Dave has handled many matters for wine industry clients, including such clients as Atlas Peak, Beringer, Caymus, Clos du Val, Frogs Leap, Silver Oak, Spring Mountain, Stag's Leap, Cakebread, Tom Eddy, and Trefethen. Dave has appeared numerous times before local governments on behalf of land use clients, including wineries, growers, vineyard management companies, waste disposal operators, resort/hotel developers and owners, radio, telecommunication and other hi-tech businesses. Dave has long been one of the few Napa County arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association, has served as a judge pro tem for the Napa Superior Courts and as president of the Napa County Bar Association. He is a past president of the Queen of the Valley Hospital Board of Trustees and of the Napa Valley College Foundation and serves on the board of the Community Foundation of the Napa Valley. For several years Dave served as the executive editor of the bi-monthly Miller & Starr California Real Estate Newsalert, which keeps practitioners informed about the latest real estate law developments in California. Dave has taught part-time over the last seven years at either the University of Edinburgh Law School or the University of Tasmania Law School. He is the author of two books: The Human Body and the Law and Medico-Legal Implications of Death and Dying. He has written numerous articles for medical and legal journals, and contributed chapters to medical and legal texts. He has also been a guest lecturer at the University of California at San Francisco Medical School and at the University of Aberdeen Law School in Scotland. Dave is an active cyclist and enjoys travel, skiing and sailing. He has bicycled across the United States, the full length of Great Britain several times and down the coast to Santa Barbara at least once every year.
