Patrick B. Sutton
Patrick B. Sutton has practiced labor and employment law for both public agencies and private clients throughout California. He has broad employment-law experience in areas such as the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, workers' compensation law and employment tort litigation. He also has handled public sector issues including the Brown Act, the Public Records Act, the Political Reform Act, the Government Tort Claims Act, and court review of public agency action. He has significant experience in public entity and school district administrative procedure and litigation. Patrick also practices traditional labor law for both private and public employers under the National Labor Relations Act and state-law labor relations statues. He has provided analysis and representation regarding grievance and arbitration of discipline, layoff and discharge cases. Patrick developed substantial real-world Human Resources experience working within a major public university system and advising staff on legal matters involving personnel management, employee and labor relations. He continues to provide workplace training for employers on state and federal employment issues. He also practices employee benefit litigation in both the unionized and non-union contexts, including advice and litigation under the Employee Income Security Act ("ERISA") and the Labor Management Relations Act ("LMRA"). Patrick was a member of the UCLA cycling team while in law school. In his time away from work, he can be found pedaling his bicycle through the wine country or fixing up an old car.
