PARTNER

JOSHUA S. DEVORE

  • Prior to joining DP&F in 2017, Josh was a partner at one of the nation’s leading securities litigation practices, where he led all phases of complex litigation, from case evaluation and analysis through discovery and appeals. For nearly 20 years, Josh served investors and the public through complex securities and related litigation, achieving recoveries of billions of dollars in favorable and novel rulings and settlements.

Josh’s experience crosses multiple industries, including wine, finance, energy, technology and accounting. Some notable matters he has undertaken include novel issues related to Napa County’s Winery Definition Ordinance and smoke taint in grapes and wine. He has litigated complex technical and financial matters, including alleged misrepresentation of the severity of BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill; the largest securities fraud in Europe against Parmalat – dubbed “Europe’s Enron”; and multiple cases involving the collapses of the Mortgage Backed Securities market and Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. Josh also litigated numerous cases involving the conduct of rating agencies during the financial crisis and investment banks in the dot-com bubble.

This range of experience – from complex international transactions to environmental compliance, to more everyday disputes – gives Josh a unique perspective on litigation risk and avoidance. In addition, Josh studied chemistry at Rice University, where he earned his undergraduate degree, and his practice of seeking an efficient, data-based result informs his analytical approach to dispute resolution and counseling.

Josh graduated with his law degree from Georgetown University in 2000 and spent two decades inside the D.C. Beltway before relocating to wine country with his family. Josh resides in the City of St. Helena with his wife, who works in the wine business, and their energetic son, and he can likely be found at the St. Helena Little League fields during baseball season.
